Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 September 2026

Draft. This is a placeholder policy while the final text is prepared. It describes beam's actual data practices in general terms, but it has not yet been reviewed or approved and may change.

beam is an event networking app operated by beam bryte. It helps attendees at participating events notice the people around them, meet the right ones, and remember who they met. This policy explains what beam collects, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Account and profile. When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from your sign-in provider. You can edit your profile — including your photo, what you're looking for, what you're offering, and your interests — and what you put there is what other attendees can see.

Nearby-device signals. During an event, beam uses Bluetooth to broadcast a rotating, anonymous identifier and to listen for the identifiers of other attendees. These identifiers change regularly, are not your name or profile, and cannot be linked to you by anyone other than beam's own service.

Co-presence records. From those signals we derive records of which attendees were near each other, when, and roughly how close. This is what powers the people-nearby view and your end-of-day recap of who you spent time with.

Matching signals. We compare profiles — interests, what you're looking for, what you're offering — to score how relevant two attendees may be to each other, so beam can suggest who is worth meeting.

Device information. We store a push notification token for your device so we can send you your recap, and basic technical information needed to operate the service.

How we use it

We use this information to run beam's core features: showing you who is around you at an event, suggesting relevant people, sending your recap, and keeping the service working and secure. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

What other people see

Other attendees see your profile as you have written it. Your rotating Bluetooth identifier reveals nothing about you by itself. Event organisers may see aggregate, non-identifying statistics about attendance and activity.

Where your data lives

beam runs on Google Firebase. Profile photos are stored in Firebase Storage, and service data is stored in Google Cloud data centres. Data is encrypted in transit.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account data while your account exists. You can delete your account from inside the app, which removes your profile, your co-presence records, and your device tokens; we complete any remaining deletion within a reasonable time unless we are legally required to keep something.

Your choices

Bluetooth scanning and notifications only work with your permission, and you can withdraw either at any time in your device settings. You control what your profile says. If you stop using beam, nothing about you is broadcast.

Children

beam is not directed at children and is intended for event attendees aged 16 and over.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.

Contact

Questions about this policy or your data can be raised with the beam team through the event organiser or the app, or by emailing support@beambryte.com.
